About Me

My name is Misty Bailey. I was born and raised in Eastern, KY. Today I am still close to my roots, but now live in the heart of the bluegrass. I currently work in an Academic Library.   My job is located in the Circulation department where I also maintain the libraries Course Reserves.

I have had a very interesting road to where I am today. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2002, I worked for Homeland Security for 7 years and then as a Mobilization and Deployment Assistant for National Guard and Reserves for several more years.

After living out of a suitcase for years I chose to leave that profession and work for a fortune 500 retail store but as luck would have it the housing market crashed and so did that job.   At the time I was also a professional photographer working weekends so I shifted that to my full time career. I chose to go back to school and completed another undergraduate degree in History.

I worked as a student worker in the library in the Special Collections and Archives department and fell in love with the job. It was somewhere I could use my history degree as well as photography and customer service skills.   My dream job is to one-day work for the Walt Disney Archives but in reality I will be happy working in any library being able to help patrons to the best of my ability.

I am currently in my last semester of my masters program in Library Science at the University of Kentucky. When I am not working or doing homework, I like to read, watch movies, craft, but most importantly spend time with my husband and our 5 cats. Yes, I was committed to being a crazy cat lady librarian before I met my husband. Funny story though, he is the one who wanted all the cats, I somehow become the voice of reason when he sees a cat and wants to take it home.

Thank you for joining me.
